Throughout October, which is Disability Awareness Month, we have been featuring books available in our school library that you and your students can read together at home to help your children learn about different disabilities. This week, we have two more book suggestions for you and your students.

If you have a child in K-3 range, Jessica's Box is the story of a young girl in a wheelchair who is doing everything she can to make friends at school. On the first day of school, Jessica brought her treasures in a box to help her make friends. She is puzzled when her ragged stuffed animal didn't win her friends, nor does the cake she took. But she did make friends when she pulled out another treasure... What was it?

Older students will enjoy the heartwarming story of Petey. This is a touching story of friendship, discovery, and the domination of the human spirit over physical obstacles. The arc of a life bound by cerebral palsy is portrayed in this riveting novel from Ben Mikaelsen.

For more great reading suggestions, stop by the library and see what Mrs. Leonard has on display.
