Fourth and fifth grade students have an opportunity to participate in elementary band or orchestra classes. 

Orchestra Information

Orchestra classes meet before school from 7:35-8:20 a.m. in the Rockwell Elementary gym with Ms. Chen and Mrs. Dolgaya. Students will be bussed to Horace Mann after class. 

Level 1 - Beginner violin and viola classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays; Level 1 - Beginner cello students meet Wednesdays and Fridays. Beginner parents and students should plan to attend the orchestra informational meeting 7:30-8:15 p.m. Sept. 12 in the gym at Rockwell Elementary School, 11125 162nd Ave. NE. There will be options available to size and to rent instruments following the meeting. 

Level 2 classes (mostly fifth graders who have completed at least one year of instruction) will meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The first class will be held Thursday, Sept. 14. Students should bring all music from last year, a sturdy folding music stand, emergency form and $5 in materials fees and should purchase Level 2 "Sound Innovations for String Orchestra" Book 2.

Band Information

Ms. Ashlyn Stoddard, a flute player, and Mr. David Sloan, a trumpet player - both Redmond Middle School music teachers - provide instruction for Elementary Band. Interested students and parents should attend the elementary band informational meeting will be from 6:30-7:15 p.m. in the gym at Redmond Middle School, 10055 166th Ave. 

Beginning band students can choose to play flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, or baritone. While there are many other instruments in a band, including percussion, students must start on one of the beginning instruments. 

All band classes meet from 7:40-8:25 a.m. at Redmond Middle School, and students should be at the school and ready for class by 7:30 a.m. Fifth grade music students who playing the same instrument for the second year meet Mondays and Wednesdays; fourth grade trumpet and clarinet players meet Tuesday and Thursday; and fourth grade trombone, baritone and flute players meet Thursday and Friday. Students will be bussed from band to Horace Mann.
