Spring Enrichment 

Classes Will Run April 22-June 6 (Except for Drama)

PTSA Enrichment Policies After school programs are allowed at Horace Mann due to PTSA sponsorship. Prior to enrolling your child, please be sure to read through our  Program Policies. By registering for any PTSA after-school program, you agree to comply with these policies. 

Registrations are on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment for classes can be made via PayPal with a credit card.  When programs are full, registrations will no longer be accepted. Registrations took place starting April 1, 2018 and ended April 16th.

Parent Volunteer Requirement Enrichment classes must have a PTSA member volunteer present during each and every class.  For the 2018-2019 school year, we need dedicated chaperones for each class. Volunteers who sign up to chaperone receive a guaranteed spot in the class and free tuition, please see more on the volunteer policies.

Art, music, drama, games and skits guide our curriculum for our Spanish Classes. We offer after school classes for returning and new students. All grade levels welcome! Grace Kaplan is a seasoned teacher, very dynamic, creative and loves to share her native language.

A program that features all the best backyard Tag & Sports games! Participants will play all the playground favorites that player love – Sharks & Minnows, Capture the Flag, Torpedo, Wall Ball, Numbers Game, Safe Base, Soccer, Kickball, Dodgeball and MORE! OTA covers all the bases with our emphasis on playing, teamwork, sportsmanship, and fitness. Don’t miss out on the FUN!

Jr. Robotics

Welcome to the world of Lego robotics. In this class we will use LEGO Education’s WeDo robotics system for budding engineers. Students will be partnered to explore the different aspects of robotic engineering and programming through several fun and easy builds using WeDo’s simple graphical programming software, motors, and sensors.

Cartooniversity 

A unique opportunity for kids of all skill levels to explore the art of cartooning with professional cartoonist/illustrator Jeff Johnson. Multiple projects and a positive classroom environment make this one-of-a-kind cartooning class fun, exciting and challenging. Areas of study include: expressions, facial features, action/movement, character development, layout, backgrounds, perspective, lettering and more! The emphasis is on developing each student’s own style. ALL MATERIALS PROVIDED.

Drama 

Adventure Children’s Theatre creates original works for the stage and fosters community by putting “play in the play.” During drama classes, students will learn acting skills and how to memorize lines. Students will play theater games and meet new friends. On the final day, kids will perform their play on the final day. This is a drama club and students will be required to attend all practices and an evening performance on June 11th

Painting and Drawing 

Let’s build creative self-confidence that will last a lifetime! In this fun and welcoming class, students will work with a variety of drawing and painting materials as they explore several fundamental processes and techniques in both disciplines. Through a series of step-by-step lessons, they’ll build an ability to more accurately draw and paint what they observe and also have an opportunity to illustrate concepts and ideas from their imaginations. Working with professional grade products, they’ll practice proper handling of the tools and materials as they learn about the elements of visual art through applied design principles.

 Running Club 

Our After School running club is a parent-led program that will encourage students in 2-5 grades to get moving and run or run/walk in a fun and encouraging setting for 20-30 minutes once a week after school. We will meet behind the stairs and will stretch and warm up before running laps around the soccer field. Parent volunteers will keep track of students’ distances, and students will earn incentives when they reach cumulative distances of 5k, 10k, 13.1 miles (half marathon) and 26.2 miles (marathon) during the quarter. Parents who are approved LWSD volunteers are welcome to come and run with their students.

Join Trendy Crafts each week and create a unique craft project to decorate your space! Let  your creativity bloom this spring and create new projects each week! This session Trendy Crafts is going all out with glass trinket trays, pom-pom canvas and, a very sweet Mother’s Day surprise!!

SEA (Speed, Explosion, Agility) CANCELLED 

Calling all athletes! Join One on One for our intense SEA program. We will combine elements of a running program with dynamic lower body, upper body, and explosive movement exercises, stretching and drills. We will combine these techniques with fun games that will focus on agility, reaction, and teamwork. This will be a great class for footwork, strengthening, and speed to get in great shape for sports seasons.

Learning and playing chess provides a host of benefits, including improved memory, problem-solving skills, an enhanced ability to think ahead, and potential performance improvement in math and science. The goal is to ensure that all of our students improve at chess, gain valuable life skills, and most importantly, have fun.
