Gone are the days where you have to run your child around town to enjoy their favorite activities! Horace Mann PTSA offers exciting classes for your child in the afternoon, right here at school.
PTSA volunteers organize afterschool enrichment classes as a service to the parents and students at Horace Mann Elementary. We work with local vendors to bring exciting classes right to our school. We offer classes such as art, science, music, drama, and athletics.
Here's how it works: Register your child for a class. All classes are held right at Horace Mann. After school is dismissed, your student need only walk over to the classroom where their enrichment class is offered. The class will be run by a professional instructor in their field. In addition, there will be a parent volunteer chaperoning the class to make sure your student is safe and happy until you pick them up. If your child does not show up to a class for which they are registered, we will contact you immediately. Children attending afterschool YMCA are encouraged to sign up for classes as well and will be escorted to YMCA after the enrichment class is done.

Any parent who volunteers to chaperone all the classes for an enrichment session will receive one FULL scholarship for their child in that class. Volunteers can also share responsibilities and receive 50% off tuition. If we do not get a single volunteer to cover the session, then we may have to cancel the class(es) that don't have a dedicated parent(s).

We don't want anyone missing out on afterschool classes. The PTSA can offer financial aid to those in need. Please, contact the school counselor, Colleen Chalmers, for more information cchalmers@lwsd.org Teachers, we encourage you to make referrals to the counselor for children that would benefit from our programs but can't afford the tuition.

One note: per our insurance and for the safety of the children we are required to have a parent chaperone for each class. That parent will take attendance and help kids get snacks or go to the restroom. They will also be there to assist in the case of behavioral issues. That way you can focus on teaching your class.
If you have skills or interests you would like to share with the students, we'd love to have you run an Enrichment Club. Just tell us the time and frequency of your club and the number and ages of the students you would like to include. The enrichment committee will register the students, give you a roster, and book a room for in person classes or online meetings for virtual classes. Then you just have to show up and run your club/class.
