AccountBand is open to beginners and budding musicians alike, students will learn to play one of four instruments—flute, clarinet, trumpet, or trombone—while building teamwork, rhythm, and confidence. No prior experience needed—just bring your enthusiasm and get ready to make some noise (the good kind)!
Choose violin, viola, or cello. Beginner Orchestra is open to students with up to two years of experience on their instrument. New students will learn the fundamentals of proper positioning, parts of the instrument, how to play notes within a D major scale, and begin to learn to read music. Continuing learners will improve their form and technique, increase their note range, and learn new songs. They will also have an increased focus on note reading fluency and building a strong understanding of note values, which are requirements to enter into Intermediate Orchestra.
Intermediate Orchestra is open to experienced violin, viola and cello students entering grades 2-5 who can demonstrate competency playing their instrument, can read music fluently, and have a strong understanding of time signature and note value. Students are expected to be able to read and learn their parts independently outside of class.
Families are responsible for providing their own instrument, stand, and book for Band and Orchestra. Music and Arts in Redmond is one option that will offer affordable instrument rentals for our students. If monthly rental is difficult financially for your family, the PTSA has offered to help find instruments to lend or give your student. Please, reach out to enrichment@mannptsa.org if you would like assistance finding an instrument for your student. Please include the type and size of instrument you are looking for in your request e-mail.

Performances: December 10th & June 10th 7-8 pm in the Horace Mann Cafeteria
Band will offer 4 instrument options for students to learn: trumpet, trombone, clarinet and flute. Although, the band will eventually practice and perform together, they will begin separated by Brass instruments on Tuesdays and woodwind instruments on Thursdays afterschool. There will be 2 performances during the year.

Two orchestra ensembles are available for students: one beginner and one intermediate. Each will meet once a week and be offered to grades 2-5. Second grade is an excellent time to introduce kids to an instrument. This will allow students to have multiple years at the elementary school building skills and making great memories playing music and can confidently go on to enjoy playing in their middle school and high school ensembles.
The beginning ensemble will teach instrument fundamentals including proper posture and technique and would be geared towards kids with no prior experience. They will then learn a few short pieces to play together as a group.
The intermediate ensemble will build upon and strengthen previously learned skills. This will allow kids to stay inspired and engaged as they explore playing more complex music. Within the intermediate group we can differentiate by assigning more or less difficult parts to students.
What if my child changes his mind and wants to do a different instrument after class has already started?
After the first week, it is not advisable for a student to change instruments because the lessons will have already moved passed the basics and it may be hard for your child to catch up. This will be handled on a case-by-case basis so please e-mail your instructor if your child is wanting to switch.
