Sign your child up for the Math Club to receive invitation to all the fun events our team has planned, competitions, math night, afterschool enrichment, challenges, etc. Registration for some of the activities require a fee but we don't want that to exclude anyone, so financial assistance is available.

Math Contests

Math is Cool

Math Is Cool competition offers team-based problem solving and individual challenges to make learning fun, collaborative, and inspiring. Unfortunately, at this time the organizers are still trying to find a location for it in our area, so we're not sure if it will still happen this academic year. We will keep you updated. If it will happen, due to space limitations, only 20 students per grade will be selected to participate. If interest exceeds this number, we will host an internal individual exam to determine eligibility or allow registration at a first come basis depending on if and when the event will be confirmed.

PTSA may offer enrichment and preparation classes to help students feel confident and ready during winter quarter. Registration for these classes will open in December alongside other enrichment offerings.

Math Kangaroo

International competition for grades 1-5 (Grade K students can compete at Grade 1 level)
Test lasts 75 minutes
Students work on these problems independently, without the use of a calculator
Date of Competition: Thursday, March 18, 2027
Time & Location: 4 - 5:30 PM at Horace Mann Elementary Commons
Registration Fee: $20 by December 31st, and additional late registration up to February 1st.

Noetic Learning Math Contest (NLMC)

Problem-solving contest for grades 2-5 (Grade 1 students can compete at Grade 2 level)
Test contains 20 creative problems to solve in 45 minutes
Students work on these problems independently, without the use of a calculator
Date of Competition: Thursday, November 12, 2026
Time & Location: 4 - 5 PM at Horace Mann Elementary Commons
Registration Fee: $10 per student
To register: Not Applicable since competition was held in Fall 2025 quarter.
Registration Deadline: October 26, 2025
Capped at 30 students per grade

Biweekly Math Challenges (Free for All!)

Open to all K-5 students • No sign-up required • Fun prizes!

Join our biweekly problem-solving activities from September through May.

Monthly Prize Drawings: One winner per grade level will be randomly selected from all entries that meet the minimum number of correct answers.
End-of-Year Trophies: Awarded for most challenges submitted and top scorers.

How to Participate:

Get the challenge: Pick up from office, print from mathinaction.org, or solve digitally.
Solve problems: Work on them with family and friends, share strategies, and try as many as you can (going beyond the minimum is encouraged!).
Submit by Thursday 11:59pm: Turn in answers online via the form in the table below. Please submit a separate form for each child. Note that sometimes you need to either answer or select "want to skip" the last question for further questions to show up.
