Gone are the days where you have to run your child around town to enjoy their favorite activities! Horace Mann PTSA offers exciting classes for your child in the afternoon, right here at school.
PTSA volunteers organize afterschool enrichment classes as a service to the parents and students at Horace Mann Elementary. We work with local vendors to bring exciting classes right to our school. We offer classes such as art, science, music, drama, and athletics.
Here's how it works: Register your child for a class. All classes are held right at Horace Mann. After school is dismissed, your student need only walk over to the classroom where their enrichment class is offered. The class will be run by a professional instructor in their field. In addition, there will be a parent volunteer chaperoning the class to make sure your student is safe and happy until you pick them up. If your child does not show up to a class for which they are registered, we will contact you immediately. Children attending afterschool YMCA are encouraged to sign up for classes as well and will be escorted to YMCA after the enrichment class is done.

Here are the responsibilities as a parent chaperone or floater.
We don't want anyone missing out on afterschool classes. The PTSA can offer financial aid to those in need. Please, contact the school counselor, Colleen Chalmers, for more information cchalmers@lwsd.org Teachers, we encourage you to make referrals to the counselor for children that would benefit from our programs but can't afford the tuition.

This fall our students will be doing school remotely from home. So, our enrichment program will also be online. We created an Enrichment Team on Microsoft Teams where students can log in with their school accounts and attend enrichment classes online. We would encourage you to host your class on Teams where we will have a meeting set up for you and you just have to join and teach. If you are more comfortable with another video platform, you may use that as well but would be responsible to instruct the families in your class on how to connect.
We will have a parent chaperone for each class just as we would in a in person setting. That parent will take attendance and help kids that are having trouble connecting or getting their video or audio working. They will also be there to assist in the case of behavioral issues. That way you can focus on teaching your class and not all the technical logistics involved!

If you have skills or interests you would like to share with the students, we'd love to have you run an Enrichment Club. Just tell us the time and frequency of your club and the number and ages of the students you would like to include. The enrichment committee will register the students, give you a roster, and set up the online meetings for you (using Microsoft Teams) Then you just have to click on the meeting link at the scheduled time and run your club.

They just need to be an approved LWSD volunteer. https://www.lwsd.org/get-involved/volunteering-in-lwsd Also, although the club will be free, if you want to buy materials for the kids, we can collect material's fee at registrations to cover the cost. Just let us know if you need that.
